AI & Data Business: Women on the Rise - Part II

AI & Data Business: Women on the Rise - Part II

In Part 1 of this two-part article celebrating the contributions that women are making to the history of the AI industry, we noted how the AI and data space remains male-dominated—from the hardcore technology of LLM development to the companies funding the sector’s growth in both the West and the East. According to Datamation’s list of the Top 100 AI companies in 2024, only four have a female CEO, CTO, or CSO, and female leadership is sparse at best.

But at Sertis, we have found great success in entrusting key leadership positions to women and continue to double down on our approach of being gender-blind in hiring and promotion decisions. Instead, we focus on the key personality and intellectual traits—established through a decade of data-driven evaluation—that equate to success in our business.

In an industry where technical skill, business knowledge, and domain expertise are all critical to succeeding in any role, these female leaders at Sertis are breaking the mold—paving the way not just for other women, but for the global industry as a whole. At Sertis, we have female talents in several positions as follows:

  • Financial Planning and Accounting Director

  • Head of Product

  • Head of UX/UI

  • Commercial Director

  • Business Development Team Lead

  • Marketing Team Lead

  • Head of Legal

  • 3 of 8 Project and Delivery Managers in the Project Management Office

  • 6 of 18 Data Scientists (all with PhDs)

While Part I spotlighted our female leaders in core technical and business development roles, Part II of AI & Data Business: Women on the Rise brings the spotlight to the women at Sertis who are driving culture, marketing communications, compliance, and strategic growth.

Let’s hear some of their voices and celebrate their rare and stellar accomplishments.

June, Senior Human Resources Partner

As Senior HR Partner, June conceives her role as one that helps shape an AI and data culture to help the business grow:

“My role as HR in an AI and data company isn’t just about policies, it’s about creating a workplace where employees feel valued, engaged, and empowered to do their best work.As a woman in a highly technical field, I bring a perspective that blends data-driven decision-making with empathy and inclusivity. In an industry that moves fast and prioritizes automation, I ensure that while we scale, we don’t lose sight of what truly drives success—people.

I use data and AI-driven insights to improve internal processes, enhance employee experiences, and build strategies that support both business growth and a strong, inclusive culture. At the end of the day, technology enables efficiency, but it's people who make innovation possible. My job is to ensure we create an environment where everyone, regardless of gender or background, has the opportunity to thrive.”

Tarn, Marketing Communications Specialist

Tarn takes a thoughtful approach to communications in the AI space—one that leverages empathy as a strategic asset:

“As a marketing communications specialist, creativity is just one part of the equation. True success in this role lies in the ability to connect, communicate, and collaborate—whether with external partners, internal technical teams, or executive leadership.

This is where I see the strength in qualities often associated with women: empathy, adaptability, and the ability to read beyond what is said. These are not just soft skills—they are strategic tools. They allow me to understand unspoken concerns, bridge gaps between conflicting interests, and create a shared vision.

Success in marketing isn’t just about selling ideas—it’s about winning trust, fostering partnerships, and bringing people together to achieve something greater than what any one team could do alone.”

Tarn reflects on her journey with confidence and gratitude for the environment Sertis has cultivated:

“Fortunately, at Sertis, I’ve never had to worry about whether my voice would be heard. We operate with a meritocratic mindset, and the presence of many talented female leaders here shows how deeply diversity is valued.

Of course, I know that biases still exist in many workplaces. If I were ever in that situation, I would address it head-on. But more importantly, I believe the best response isn’t to prove ourselves harder in that specific situation—it’s to maintain our standards and quality of work, and let our results speak for themselves in the long term. Confidence in our capabilities is also key. When we let our work lead the conversation, we challenge biases in the most undeniable way possible.”

Pang, Senior Partnerships Manager

Pang bridges the gap between technology and business through a uniquely empathetic yet analytical approach to partnerships:

“As a Partnerships Manager, my mission is to drive growth by identifying strategic opportunities in indirect sales and technology partnerships.

In the fast-moving world of AI and data, success thrives on collaboration. I bring a blend of analytical problem-solving and relationship-building. This lets me bridge the gap between technical depth and commercial strategy—ensuring partnerships are not just functional, but transformative.

I prioritize long-term value creation, using data and strategic communication to build trust and aligned objectives. In a world where agility is essential, I help forge connections that drive both technological advancement and lasting impact.”

She recognizes that communication style can sometimes be misjudged in high-stakes discussions:

“Empathetic communication is sometimes misunderstood as a lack of authority. But I believe leadership is not about dominance—it’s about influence and clarity. I use logic, evidence, and data to strengthen my arguments and ensure decisions are made based on value.

High-stakes conversations require a balance of assertiveness and diplomacy. I focus on listening, understanding, and presenting fact-based solutions that align with stakeholders. That’s how I turn potential friction into progress.

By showing that empathy and strategic thinking can coexist, I aim to challenge outdated norms and inspire more inclusive leadership styles in the tech world.”

Prim, Legal Counsel

Prim’s legal work at Sertis is pioneering in its own right—adapting traditional legal principles to keep pace with fast-evolving AI technology:

“As a legal counsel at Sertis, I navigate the fast-moving landscape of AI while ensuring compliance with existing laws. AI and data evolve rapidly, and legal frameworks often struggle to keep up, making this field completely different from traditional legal work.

I continuously stay updated on both tech advancements and regulatory developments. It’s not just about mitigating risk—it’s about enabling innovation while ensuring that everything we do is legally sound. Being a woman in this space also allows me to advocate for inclusivity, data protection, and responsible governance in AI development.”

She reflects on the challenge of moving at the speed of innovation while law often lags behind:

“One of the biggest challenges is that regulations haven’t caught up to AI yet. At Sertis, I have to strike a balance between ensuring compliance with today’s laws and preparing the company for future frameworks.

I prioritize continuous learning and collaboration—working closely with technical and business teams to ensure legal considerations are integrated early in the process. This way, we don’t just protect the business—we set it up for sustainable, compliant growth.”

Success in the AI and data space lies in a blind. These women at Sertis aren’t just participating in the industry—they’re shaping its future.

Their work, voices, and leadership offer a powerful reminder: diversity is not a metric to achieve. It’s a catalyst for meaningful progress.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate the women at Sertis and across the AI and data industry who are breaking barriers, reshaping norms, and building a future where talent—not gender—defines success.
